Reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to understand the steel components needed for a project.
Creating detailed shop drawings that show the dimensions, connections, and other specifications of steel components, such as beams, columns, and trusses.
Using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 2D and 3D models of steel components.
Collaborating with architects, engineers, and construction managers to ensure that shop drawings are accurate and meet design and safety standards.
Communicating with steel fabricators and erectors to ensure that the shop drawings are being accurately interpreted and used for fabrication and construction.
Preparing erection plans that show the sequence of construction and the placement of steel components.
Reviewing and approving shop drawings and submittals from steel fabricators and erectors.
Maintaining records of shop drawings and other project documents.
