Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications to determine the proper welding procedures and materials needed for a project.
Operating welding equipment, such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), to weld and fabricate steel components.
Inspecting welds to ensure they meet the quality and safety standards set by the company and the relevant regulatory bodies.
Preparing surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and cutting steel components.
Identifying and troubleshooting welding problems, such as cracks and distortion.
Following safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries on the job site.
Maintaining welding equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working condition.
Collaborating with other tradespeople, such as ironworkers and construction supervisors, to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.
